Discussions on “Management of SOFAZ’s Assets; how can they protected from risks?”

State
Oil Fund of Azerbaijan Republic (SOFAZ) assets have been increased from $ 2,017
million in August, 2007 to $ 3,335 million in April, 01, 2008. Budget revenues
of the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) for the period of
January-March, 2008 reached 1116,4 million manat, while budget expenditures constituted
438,4 mln. Manat. Revenues of the 2008 budget of the fund was approved 3,60, expenditures
1,68 billion manat, the amounts, however, will be expected to be amended in May,
2008 when the state budget is amended at the Parliament. SOFAZ’s revenues have
been increased thanks to the oil price in the market.

UNITED PROJECT FOR 2007: Project activities

United Project - 2007: Shamakhy hosts a regular event (27/08/2007)
Two
civil society institutions – Healthy Development and Education, and
Democratic Reformist Youth – held a regular event in Shamakhy, a regional
town some 140 km west away from Baku, in the framework of the Involvement of
the Youth in EITI Processes component of the 2007 United Project of the
Coalition Increasing Transparency in Extractive Industries.

United Project - 2007: Roundtable in Khachmaz
Khachmaz, a regional town in the north-eastern part of Azerbaijan, recently
hosted a roundtable in the framework of the united project of the coalition
Increasing Transparency in Extractive Industries (ITEI) and a campaign known as
Public Awareness and the Growth of the Interest of the Citizens in the Prudent
Use of Oil Incomes.

Moore Stephens to
collate next EITI reports
Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) reports for the year 2006
will be collated by Moore Stephens Azerbaijan Limited following the decision of
the Selection Group, which was established in accordance with the Memorandum of
Understanding signed to implement EITI in Azerbaijan between the governmental
Committee on EITI, foreign and local extractive industry (oil and gas) companies
and the NGOs’ Coalition for Increasing Transparency in Extractive Industries.
Tender has been announced by bp, as the foreign and local companies are to pay
audit company’s fees for collation of the next (sixth) cycle reports as per MOU.

International report on G8 promises
Berlin, 5 June 2007 - Transparency International’s (TI) ‘G8 Progress Report’
[http://www.transparency.org/publications/publications/g8_progress_report],
issued today in Berlin, a day ahead of the Group of Eight (G8 ) Summit in
Germany, concludes that although many laudable commitments have been made
towards fighting corruption and improving governance, follow-through on them has
been meagre.
