* STATEMENT of January 18th, 2007 by the Coalition Increasing Transparency in Extractive Industries on the decision by the Tariff Council of January 7th, 2007 The oil sector has developed at a high pace in our country recently. Earnings from the sale of crude oil and petroleum products have played an exceptional role in boosting the expenditures of the state budget for 2006, as well as raising salaries, benefits and pensions and social allowances. Contributions from the Oil Fund have done their duty to show a disposition towards the removal of refugee and IDP camps, better the water supply system, build up road infrastructure, and launch a number of other capital-intensive projects on different occasions. In general, there has been observed a relative advancement with respect to solving social problems of the population.






* Oil Revenues for the Benefit of Everyone A conference held in the framework of the Oil Revenues are Ours campaign being conducted by the Increasing Transparency in Extractive Industries (ITEI) coalition Brief Information Increasing Transparency in Extractive Industries, a union of civil society organizations of Azerbaijan, at the Grand Europe Hotel on October 20th, 2006, conducted a conference Oil Revenues for the Benefit of Everyone, with financial and organizational support from the USAID and the Counterpart International, respectively, in the framework of the project known as Civil Society. Participating in the event were representatives from the UK Embassy to Azerbaijan, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, civil society organizations, as well as intellectuals, media and members of the ITEI coalition. Mr Sabit Bagirov, a coordinator of the ITEI coalition board, presided over the
