Two civil society institutions – Healthy Development and Education, and Democratic Reformist Youth – held a regular event in Shamakhy, a regional town some 140 km west away from Baku, in the framework of the Involvement of the Youth in EITI Processes component of the 2007 United Project of the Coalition Increasing Transparency in Extractive Industries.

Database of the State Oil Fund and the Coalition was used during the event. For their part, project experts gave thorough answers to the questions young participants were interested in. Opening the event, Mr Asaf Mikayilov, the head of the project, informed the participants of the aim of the planned work. He made an in-depth presentation on project targets that had been outlined in accordance with the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative. Then the floor was given to Mr Qubad Ibadoglu, a project expert. He made the emphasis on oil contracts, the activity of the Coalition and economic aspects of the transparency of oil incomes. The presentation raised a series of questions from the audience. Mr Ibadoglu answered those questions. Also participating in the capacity of experts were Mr Matlab Abbasov and Mr Rasim Abutalibov. The latter speaker made a presentation on the activity of the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and economically viable projects which are funded by the institution. The event lasted in an interactive mode; participants were provided with booklets and brochures which were printed by the Coalition.
