Two civil society institutions – Healthy Development and Education (SIMIB), and Democratic Reformist Youth (DIGB) – on July 27th 2007 held a regular roundtable in Tovuz, a regional town some 440 km west away from Baku, in the framework of the Involvement of the Youth in EITI Processes component of the 2007 United Project of the Coalition Increasing Transparency in Extractive Industries. The event drew the attendance of some 20 young people, started at 10 am and lasted till the noon.

Opening the event, Mr Asaf Mikayilov, the head of the project, gave the participants a general insight to the topic. Then he passed the floor over to Mr Aslan Valiyev, a member of the Board of the Coalition. Mr Valiyev made an in-depth presentation featuring ITEI Coalition in general, reasons for the establishment of and the activities that had been carried out by the alliance. Afterwards, it was the turn of another speaker, Mr Matlab Abbasov, an expert in law, who provided the audience with extensive information on history of and reasons for the establishment of the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ), and areas of activity of the institution. Finally, Mr Rasim Abutalibov, an expert in economics, made a thorough presentation on revenues and expenditures of SOFAZ, while Mr Anar Khalilov, the chairman of SIMIB, and Ms Vusala Huseynova, the chairman of DIGB, shared their opinions on the project with young participants and answered the questions the audience were interested in.

SOFAZ and the Ministry of Youth and Sports provided informational and, respectively, organizational support to hold the event.
